Birdi celebrates his 35 years in “The Fort”
This year’s B.C. Day had even more
meaning for Dave Birdi.
While celebrating the B.C. day with
his family and friends, Birdi, a councillor for the
District of Fort St. James, also celebrated the
day he moved to the Fort on August 3, 35 years ago.
Birdi, along with his mother, brothers and sisters
moved to the Fort to join his father, Lachman Birdi, who
had already settled in Fort St. James and started
working at the local sawmill in 1972.
“I am very proud to call the Fort as
my chosen home,” said Birdi, who was elected as a
councillor in 2008.
“The Fort is a great place to live,
work, and raise a family,” said Birdi.
Birdi spent almost all of his years
living right here in Fort St. James. After
graduating from the Fort St. James Secondary School,
Birdi moved to the Lower Mainland to further his
education and came back to settle in the Fort.
Birdi spends time volunteering in
sports, for the radio and television society, and
with his wife, two daughters, and son.
